you're someone who knows someone who knows someone I once knew I just wanna be a part of this.
'Mr. Diamond!!' Noah jumped, woken from his daydream. His eyes went from the surface of his desk at the back to the angry-looking teacher standing at the front of the class. 'Yes, sir?' Noah answered, his tone polite. He was barely in the door of this school, and already he had gotten in serious trouble with most of his teachers, so he didn't want to get on Mr. Harrison's bad list, too. 'Can you answer my question please?' the balding middle-aged man asked. 'Um...' Noah murmured, starting blanking at the teacher. 'I don't know.' He wasn't lying - even if he had been listening to the teacher, and heard the question he had asked, he probably still wouldn't have been able to give the correct answer. School was far from Noahs strong point. Mr Harrison sighed, and rubbed his temple. 'Noah Diamond, I..' the teacher was interrupted when the bell for lunch break rang, loud and shrill. Immediately, the class of seniors grabbed their books and bags and hurried out the door before Mr. Harrison could say another word, eager for their lunch.
Several minutes passed before Noah stood in the crowded cafeteria. Looking around him, he saw familiar faces of kids that he had met over the last few months he was in Adeline sitting down around tables, chatting, joking, laughing and picking at their food. Their faces held friendly expressions, but Noah didn't feel like joining them. Meeting new people and making new friends was generally no bother to Noah, but today, he felt a lack of energy to do so. After long months of sleeping in until three o'clock and going to bed at around six o'clock every morning, he was understandably wrecked with the new body clock he had to get used to. Noah yawned as he got himself a coffee from a machine, and he made his way over to an empty table in the middle of the cafeteria.
A group of boys and girls he had met over summer and knew on a first-name basis were sitting at the table next to his, and they greeted him when they noticed where he was sitting. Noah smiled and waved at them, but declined the invitation when he was asked to sit at their table, and stayed at his empty one. It looked at little crowded anyway. Even so, the kids did their best to include Noah in their conversation. Noah gave them short answers when asked questions, and after a couple of minutes, he stopped answering altogether and focused on his coffee. Noah hated coffee in the first place, and this cup was even worse, only lukewarm and a vile flavor that tasted like dirt. He still forced it down though, as he needed to stay awake, Noah made the decision to skip school tomorrow. When the liquid was drank, he pushed the cup away from him and sat daydreaming for a few minutes, waiting for the caffeine to take its effect.
And once it did kick in, Noah felt more alert and more in the mood for socializing. He sat up in his seat, either waiting for the kids beside him to start the banter with him again or someone to come over to start talking to him. He may have felt more awake, but Noah sure as hell wasn't about to waste this energy with actually getting up.

i don’t know what I want, SO DON’T ASK ME, cause i'm still trying to figure it out - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Arabella trudged through the bustling halls, trying to dodge the hordes of people coming her way. Weaving her way in and out of the crowd, she tried to ignore the inquisitive stares and leering jeers being thrown her way, painfully aware that a great majority of the eyes were on her. One thing she had never quite gotten used to over the years was people staring at the new girl, which was especially intense in smaller towns like Adeline. Of course, this was also her first time attending a ‘real’ highschool, so the stares, along with the unfamiliar schedules, large classes, and foreign social structure all combined in a whopping heap, leaving Arabella with a huge headache and more than a few inquiries.
She buried her head down and charged towards her locker, mumbling a quiet apology when she rammed into a startled freshman. Arabella turned to see if there was any damage, but the boy had already scuttled off, probably intimidated by her tall frame. She shook her head, startled by the slight accident, and started to spin her combination lock. Damn it, she could never remember the code for these. 32, 14, 28, she chanted silently in her head, and gave the lock a strong tug, hoping that it would open. To her great relief, it popped open with a click. She swung open her locker and jammed her books inside, reaching for her wallet with her lunch money. She slammed her locker shut, took a deep breath, and followed the masses towards the huge cafeteria.
Even after a couple of days at this new school, Arabella still could not even begin to understand the inner workings of the lunchroom hierarchy. Overhearing a conversation between two sophomores in the girl’s bathroom, it seemed like where one sat was the key to their popularity. Apparently certain tables were ‘geek tables,’ while others were ‘completely and totally off limits.’ Arabella had taken to eating lunch at the nearest empty table, quickly scarfing it down while ignoring the ever-present stares, and afterwards immediately heading to the deepest stacks of the library, where she could get away from the awkwardness. So far, her plan had been working pretty smoothly, and Arabella planned to replicate it again today.
Heading into the cafeteria, she walked over to the short lunch line, taking her place behind a short lower classman. He immediately offered up his space to her, insisting when Arabella wouldn’t take it. “You must be new,” he said when she questioned his motives. “Trust me, this is completely normal. It just works like this here.” Arabella stood in silence for a few moments, pondering this thought with a confused expression on her face. Did it always work like this? It sure wasn’t fair to everyone else, though… “Um, thanks,” she said hastily.
Startled out of her reverie, Arabella quickly grabbed a bottle of mineral water and headed over to the cashier. She wasn’t hungry, which was very out of character for her. However, the new town and unfamiliar school experience her toying with her nerves, and evidently her appetite. Even the thought of food right now made her stomach churn, but she had to get something in her stomach, even if it was only water. Handing her credit card to the cashier, she observed the slack jawed expression on the girl’s face, who was staring down at her platinum American Express. Embarrassment immediately began to fill her body, coloring her barely made-up face a flushed pink. “O-Oh,” she stammered. “Do you guys not accept credit card?” She fumbled around for her wallet, fishing around for a five dollar bill. “No, it’s fine, we do, it's just that not many people use credit cards to pay for a bottle of water... But really, it's fine.” the cashier quickly replied to a embarrassed Arabella. “It’s just that, um,” she swiped the card, and waited for the transaction to take place. “Are you Arabella van der Meer? Of like, THE van der Meers?” she stared up at Arabella with her overly-made up eyes, and handed her the slip to sign. Arabella flushed even more, if that was possible. How was it that even people here knew who she was, who her family was? Arabella just smiled in confirmation, quickly thrusting the slip back into the stunned girl’s hand and grabbing her water.
She took a couple of quick steps away from the register and turned to survey the cavernous room. It seemed as if all the seats were filled today, she scanned the various tables desperately for one that was vacant. Finally spotting a couple of open seats in the middle of the room, she quickly moved in their direction. As she walked, she could feel numerous eyes on her, and she mentally willed them to look away. Come on, she wasn’t that interesting… As she neared the table, it occurred to her that she could just go directly to the library, since she didn’t have any food. But she was already there, she thought, and it would just attract even more attention if she left abruptly.
There was one other occupant at the table, a senior boy nursing a cup of coffee. She threw a shy, close-mouthed smile in his direction, pulling back an empty chair and gingerly sitting herself on it. He didn’t seem to object, so she unscrewed the cap on her water bottle, taking a small sip. Arabella kept her eyes on the table, self-consciously ignoring the stares of her fellow classmates. After a few seconds, she sensed them returning to their previous conversations, already bored with her uninteresting life. That’s right, she thought. Don’t look at me.
